Willard “Bud” Keller, DVM, DACVS
Board-Certified Surgeon
“I view surgery as an opportunity to bring abrupt, significant, and permanent change to another’s life-not just for my patients, but for those who care for them as well. I’ve learned that this change can be for the better, or for the worse, and that taking the time to plan, paying attention to detail, proceeding in a gentle and confident manner, being creative when needed, a willingness to learn, and so many other intangibles that come from experience can together mean a difference. It’s an incredible responsibility that I never take lightly, no matter how routine the procedure.”

These methods are designed to reduce pain, promote quicker recovery, and ensure the best possible outcomes for your beloved pet.

Amanda “Mandi” Arwood

Patient Care Manager
Surgical Communications Coordinator
Mandi, an NC Registered Veterinary Technician, works in tandem with the Anesthesia Director to manage the workflow of the nursing team. While Dr. Smith manages the OR team, Mandi manages the team responsible for the post-surgical nursing care of the patient’s care and client education. “I am proud of the work; our team does every day to ensure our patients get a high -standard of care while ensuring the clients are empowered with the tools they need to be good caregivers for their post-surgical pet.” The patient care team spends as long as it takes to ensure each client understands how to properly prepare the home environment for the arrival of the surgical patient, as well as how to properly exercise and medicate the patient.
Mandi also supports the surgeons by triaging DVM and client calls, helping to work in urgent cases, refilling medications, and staying a step ahead of schedule to ensure we are there for the patients who need us. A technology aficionado, Mandi runs the CT diagnostics and has trained other team members. She is quick to jump in to solve technology issues within the workflow.

Jennifer “Jenn” Finn
Client Finance Manager
With over 17 years of finance experience in Veterinary Specialty Medicine, Jen has brought a wealth of knowledge to the practice since joining in 2017.
Jenn is the person who is responsible for preparing estimates for the surgical treatment plans. This requires a working knowledge of the proposed surgical plan and the cost of delivering those treatments. Jenn works closely to monitor and execute our pricing strategies, audit invoices, and manage accounts receivables. At the end of the day, she is the one to run the reports and close the financial day. Jenn is an asset to the front desk, where she assists with everything from invoice corrections to assisting with discharge preparation and answering unusual questions that Jenn, with her “encyclopedia of odd knowledge,” can address.
Jenn attended NC State, where she pursued accounting courses.

What is a Board-Certified Surgeon?
Most primary care veterinarians complete undergraduate training, followed by four years of veterinary school—then they can start or join a practice. However, a boarded veterinary surgeon goes through additional training after veterinary school.
This advanced training entails, at minimum, a 12-month internship followed by three years in a residency program that meets the stringent guidelines of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). Candidates then take a rigorous examination. A diplomate of the ACVS with credentials denoted as DACVS, is certified as a specialist in surgery and is referred to as a “board-certified surgeon”.
A board-certified surgeon may be needed for procedures that:
- Require more specialized training
- Are advanced or uncommon, including fractures, cancerous tumor removal, emergency surgery, etc.
- Require specific or more advanced surgical and/or testing equipment such as ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
- Pose a higher risk to your pet’s outcome or life
