Specialty Surgery
Quartet continues to provide advanced specialty surgery led by our experienced surgical team. From orthopedic and soft tissue procedures to complex and urgent surgical cases, we work closely with pet owners and referring veterinarians to provide individualized care and exceptional surgical expertise.
Emergency & Urgent Surgery
Emergency and urgent surgical referrals continue to be welcomed at Quartet. When a pet requires prompt surgical evaluation or intervention, our team is here to support both the patient and their referring veterinarian.
Referring veterinarians can continue to refer emergency and urgent surgical cases through our existing referral process. Visit our online referral forms or call our hospital directly at 919-545-1001 to discuss a case or coordinate a referral or transfer.
Emergency Care Begins September 21
Beginning September 21, Quartet will take another important step in our expansion with the launch of walk-in emergency care Monday–Thursday from 8:00 AM–8:00 PM.
Led by our newest emergency veterinarians, Dr. Lyle and Dr. Valdés, this initial phase of emergency service will focus on urgent and non-life-threatening cases that require timely evaluation and care.
This provides pet owners with another option when an unexpected medical concern arises and gives our referring veterinary partners additional support when a patient needs prompt attention beyond what can be accommodated in their regular schedule.
Emergency Conditions We Can Treat
Quartet’s emergency team can evaluate and treat a growing range of urgent and emergency conditions, including:
- Pregnancy and birthing complications (dystocia)
- Intestinal obstruction, including foreign bodies and intussusception
- Splenic masses and internal abdominal bleeding (hemoabdomen)
- Urinary obstruction, including cases requiring perineal urethrostomy (PU)
- Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV/bloat)
- Traumatic injuries, including severe wounds and fractures
- Jaw fractures
- Severe uterine infection (pyometra)
- Eye injuries or conditions requiring eye removal (enucleation)
- Sudden limping or acute lameness
- Sudden collapse or weakness
- Vomiting and diarrhea
- Ear infections, hot spots, and other acute skin concerns
- Stable hit-by-car injuries*
- Other stable, urgent conditions requiring prompt evaluation
Not sure if your pet should be seen? Please call our team to discuss your pet’s condition and determine whether Quartet is the appropriate place for care.
*For hit-by-car patients: Quartet can accept patients who are stable at the time of presentation. Pets requiring ongoing or overnight trauma stabilization should be directed to a 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital. When surgery may be needed following trauma, our team will determine appropriate timing and diagnostics based on the individual patient, including evaluation for pulmonary contusions.
A Note About Critical Emergencies
As we continue to expand our emergency services, pets experiencing severe or life-threatening trauma or requiring advanced critical care and continuous stabilization should be taken to the nearest 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital.

24/7 Emergency Care
True peace of mind. Because emergencies don’t keep business hours, our urgent care service is expanding to full 24/7 emergency care – so when the unexpected happens, a trusted specialist is always within reach. Our doors, staff, and ICU will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
State-of-the-Art Facility
Built to support better outcomes. Our expanded facility includes larger treatment areas, an enhanced intensive care unit (ICU), and advanced diagnostic imaging, giving our specialists the space and technology to care for even the most complex cases.
